The life of a tradie can be tough. Aside from the early starts and working outside in the weather (seriously, how is it 26 degrees in May!?!) there are a few other things that can drive tradies bonkers. So here are the top 5 things that make a good tradie-customer relationship…
5 – Offer us a cuppa
Someone asked me over the weekend who my favourite type of client is. I joked that, as an Englishman it’s the one who offers me a cup of tea! But straight up, a simple offer of a cup of tea, a water or whatever makes all the difference to my day. That, and being allowed to use the bathroom every now and then!
4 – Give us a heads up about pets
I am definitely an animal lover, but not every dog is as laid back as Charlie. Before we visit for the first time, do us a favour and let us know who else to expect at the front door. If your Persian has a habit of rubbing up against walls, or your Poodle has a paint brush fetish these are good things to be aware of ahead of time.
3 – Have a chat
We get that you’re busy but it doesn’t hurt to stop and have a chat once in a while. Tradies are people too – talk to us for five minutes and you might find out we have something else in common. Don’t make us feel like second class citizens. A little common courtesy will make the job easier for everyone.
2 – Be clear about your expectations
If you want us to finish by 2.30pm every Wednesday because you need to mediate, no worries. Just tell us. Likewise, hook us up with any milestone dates you want things done by or if there are other tradies we need to work around. And if there’re going to be issues with getting access to the property, don’t forget to give us a heads up. We’ll tell you what to expect price-wise and whether there’s going to be any potential issues and together we’ll be sweet.
1 – Trust our recommendations
At the end of the day, you want your home to look mint. So do we. We’ll recommend the best products and tell you the best way to get the job done, so you don’t have to second guess anything. If you want our opinion on colour schemes or wallpaper design we can do that too. Ultimately, we just want to do a bang up job for you so your project ends up exactly the way you hoped (and so you rave to your friends about us and they get us in too)!
